Our Story

A recipe carried across generations.

We call it Sweet Rice — but the tradition behind every jar has a name that goes back centuries: jiuniang (酒酿).

Jiuniang — sometimes written jiǔ niàng and often translated as "sweet fermented rice" — is a generations-old Chinese dessert made by slowly fermenting glutinous rice with water and a traditional starter. After a few warm days, the rice becomes soft, glossy, gently tangy, and naturally sweet — no sugar added.

Grandpa's Sweet Rice was created to preserve that memory and share it in a way that feels both traditional and modern. Every batch starts simply — rice, water, time, and fermentation — then comes to life through flavors like osmanthus, lychee, goji, dragon fruit, and coffee.

On the label, we call it Sweet Rice because it is simple, approachable, and true to the taste. Whether jiuniang is part of your childhood or something entirely new, there is a place for you at the table.
